Name Butter Pecan // Elan
Age 21
Team Citrine

Height/Build Medium-sized! Exact height unknown, since all humans tend to be roughly the same size in the webcomic. But he's probably about human male average height. His build is athletic, but only moderately muscular: he can spend days walking (or running) in chain mail, carrying supplies and using a rapier, and he is probably stronger than average, but not exceptionally so.
Hair Color/Eye Color Elan is a blond. You can't really see his eye color in the comic's art style, but at one point, Elan uses finger puppets to give a recap of the story, and the Elan-puppet has blue buttons for eyes. So probably blue.
Notable Traits Apparently he's pretty cute. Thanks to a misadventure involving his evil twin brother and some very strong adhesive, Elan is no longer capable of growing a beard. He could probably manage a mustache or some kick-ass sideburns though.

Other If you want to know what he looks like when not drawn as a stick figure, there is a picture of his evil twin (panel 7, left) drawn in a different style. Just subtract the goatee and add a doofy grin.

Memory #21

Memory 21: On trial for breaking the universe
Form: Faberge egg (6/7)

The party (sans Belkar) is in a (very blue) jail. Roy is worried about some kind of trial. Haley manages to pick the lock. Right as the army is coming for them. They hide in the cells and pretend like they weren't trying to escape. They joke with another paladin (Hinjo!) and learn that Belkar escaped his cell and is taunting Miko with murder. MIko goes to catch him.

They meet Lord Shojo, a half-senile-seeming old man with a cat. He tells them they weakened the fabric of the universe and will be judged by a scary being from the Upper Planes. But Celia is their defense attorney! Hi Celia!

So, there's a lot of witness testimony. But Celia points out that all they proved was that the party blew up a dungeon (We did? Neat!). Lord Shojo was forced to reveal state secrets about the origin of the OotS universe... and about how that castle held one of five gates protecting the universe from a Snarl in the fabric of reality. Also, one of the other gates is in Azure City.

Celia argues that the destruction of the gate by Elan (Whoops!) was to keep Xykon from getting a hold of the Snarl's power. And the Being agrees! Yay!

Incidentally, this story notes that the Norse and Babylonian pantheons (and the Chinese zodiac as animal gods) exist in Elan's world, and the Greek pantheon existed at one point, but was eaten by the Snarl. This totally will not be awkward given Elan has two Greek demigods on his team.

Form: apple tart!

You can impress audiences with your talent and skill.

This is actually several skills in one, since a lot of Elan's special powers derive from his ability to sing and play instruments. We know Elan has Perform: Sing, Perform: String Instruments and Perform: Wind Instruments (a kazoo counts as a wind instrument, I think). He's at least tried to give speeches and do comedy.

This is just the mundane 'sounds good and is on-key and can harmonize' skill, not the 'can use voice to do impossible things' skill (but Elan can't use those abilities without knowing how to sing or play or speak or something). I'd also say it covers Elan's ability to remember songs, since it's not like Elan has a good memory otherwise.

This last memory is the meat of one of two of Elan's big character development moments. This is when he realizes that between Nale and the main plot of the comic, he can't half-ass it as a none-too-bright bard who can't even use what he does well half the time. So, he has Julio teach him how to use his strengths (his wordplay and love of tropes) to his advantage.

Form: [Skills come in the form of a small tube of lipstick in your team color! Apply it to receive your skill, and trust me, you like, totally look super fetching in that shade!]

A bard is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip. (When using a weapon with which you are not proficient, you take a -4 penalty on attack rolls.)

So, basically, Elan now has basic training on a bunch of different weapons. He can use them correctly to attack someone and other people can tell he knows what he's doing. This doesn't gain him back his full skill at using them (this is what he'd have had as a first-level bard), but he can hold his own against less experienced opponents/monsters.

Pecan has enough memories that he'd probably favor the rapier, simply because he remembers using one a lot, but things like 'quarterstaff' or 'club' would be easier to get. And, sans magic, borrowing a bow might be useful.

Full list of weapons: club, crossbow, dagger, longsword, mace, quarterstaff, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, sickle, sling, spears

What Pecan Learned

I worship an awesome god I made up! (You're welcome, Citrine.)

A tiny bit about how jobs work... in a world run by Dungeons and Dragons.

Form: [Memories come in the form of tiny baggies of jungle slime. Eat the slime to get your memory! . . . it tastes like peanut butter even if it doesn't look to appetizing, and also goes well with bread. One use]

If I let myself get hung up on only doing things that had any actual chance of success, I'd never do anything.  )

What Pecan Learned
Wait, Roy's dead!? That's not okay at all! Except Durkon can fix it if he has the body, so that's better. Except Haley and Belkar go missing getting the body back, so that's terrible!

More thoughts about getting a lute, even if he's better off with a sword. (Elan has his Weapon Proficiencies in his pile of things to take, but not his Perform skill.) Lutes are awesome!

Something about the power of story. Become main characters to survive! Don't temp the narrative!

V knows stuff about magic! Like how to make really cool illusions.

Haley is missing. That's not good at all. Splitting up was a terrible idea.

(This may be Elan's first memory of Redcloak, come to think of it, but like heck he'd remember him.)

Form: Memories come in the form of a tiny apple pie. Eat it to receive the memory. Two uses, if you wish to share the pie with someone.

Even I don't know how I do it! )

What Pecan Learned
String instruments and the perils of having friends turned into lizards. Also, Pecan will start singing to help people perform tasks. He hasn't gotten this power back yet (or any musical training whatsoever, besides hanging around other singers/musicians in Aather), but it will not stop him. (I am sorry, Citrine.)

Pecan has enough clues to put together when this happened, but chronology isn't exactly an interest of his.

Pecan still thinks Obsidian might be secretly evil, since he's also a black dragon.

Come in the form of a Necco wafer in your team's color. Eat them. One use.
Meeting the Rest of the Order (Origins of PCs. pp. 66-71)

[The form is a tiny clear bottle. Insert a liquid inside and drink from the bottle to receive your memory. You will instinctively know this! It also has unlimited uses.]
Finding the Tower of Dorukan (Dungeon Crawling Fools bonus)

Both of these memories are in books I have packed, so text TBA...

A feather in your team colour. How odd . . . When you touch it and think about taking your memory, it hovers in the air for a while, then floats gently back down again. Unlimited uses, but the memories fade over time . . .

Memories come as small bone disks, surprisingly soft and worn. (They might smell funky.) Scratch one side with your fingernail to view. Two uses.

Yes! A plot hook! Uh, I mean, look! An innocent civilian in dire need of our assistance. Heh heh. )

Memory Form is a pair of handkerchiefs. Give one to someone and keep the other and you'll both receive the memory simultaneously (forced shareable). Your initials will appear on the handkerchiefs after.

You know, the first two I probably should've seen coming. The leprechaun costume? Not so much. )
